Psychologist Silvia Álava shares with us the best tips to get back to school in the best possible way.

With great enthusiasm and expectations, Scientia School Centers start a new school year. More than 2,500 students, from Kindergarten to Vocational Training, and more than 350 teachers started their classes on Thursday, September 6.
After the vacations, it is normal for children to feel a bit disoriented and find it difficult to adapt to school life again. However, there are several strategies we can follow to make this process easier and more pleasant for them.
Below, psychologist Silvia Álava shares with us the best tips for children to get the best out of going back to school.

Tips to make going back to school easier

-Take care of sleep. When we do not get enough sleep, we are more irritable, more irritable and we concentrate less well. In the case of children, the growth hormone is also secreted during the deep phase of sleep, so it is important that they sleep the necessary hours.

-Healthy eating. Maintaining a healthy diet helps both their body and mind function properly.

-Make sure they stay hydrated. For their brains to function properly, they need to be well hydrated. In fact, with very low levels of dehydration our attention span, concentration and the speed with which we process stimuli is reduced.

-Validate their emotions. It is important that we validate their emotions and then explain why they feel that way. For example: “Maybe you are sad because you like being on vacation better, it happens to me too”, and then give them a small emotional regulation strategy: “Let’s think about all the positive things about going back to school: you will see your friends every day, you will learn many things, you will meet new people, you will resume your activities…”.

-Learn to look for the good in each day. Fun moments and pleasant emotions are not only exclusive to the summer, but are with us all year long. We can do an exercise in which each day we look for three moments in which we have felt a pleasant emotion. For example: “I’m happy because I had a great time at recess”, “I’m proud of how well the drawing we had to do turned out.
